Spot #3: "Crime-Fighting Trio"

Here is the script for radio spot #3, "The Crime-Fighting Trio".

Hi, I’m Novella Smith Arnold. Many of you know me as Chaplain Arnold.

You also know that I have long been an advocate and a voice for the disenfranchised here in Memphis.

Now I want to be your representative on the County Commission, District 2.

I live in the inner city. and I am just as concerned as you about the rising crime.

More police on the streets will help -- but you can’t fight crime with one hand.

The criminal justice system needs to work smarter. Let’s keep the homeless and mentally ill out of our jails, and leave more room for the real criminals.

The public health system needs to work smarter. They need to get into the grade schools and work with our children before they start having babies and using drugs

The education system needs to work smarter. Let’s give our children the motivation to stay in school, not join the gangs. Let’s give them the right education for today’s new jobs.

Public safety, public health, and public education. They’re the crime-fighting trio.

Vote for Novella Smith Arnold for County Commission, District 2.

Spot #4: "The Same Map"

Here is the script for radio spot #4, "The Same Map":

Hi, I’m Novella Smith Arnold. Many of you know me as Chaplain Arnold.

You also know that I have long been an advocate and a voice for the disenfranchised here in Memphis.

Now I want to be your representative on the County Commission, District 2.

I love this City and its people.

I’m tired of Memphis being the ugly stepchild.

For decades, the county and the city have moved further apart.

We’ve been building walls instead of bridges.

No more.

The Memphis charter commission will be re-thinking the City’s roles. I believe the county can do the same

We can work together,

We can eliminate the duplication, the waste, and the head-butting.

It’s time to put Memphis and Shelby County back on the same map.

Vote for Novella Smith Arnold for County Commission, District 2.

The Other Commission Race

Reinvented Democrat Henri Brooks vies with underdog Novella Smith Arnold of the GOP

The Memphis Flyer
By Jackson Baker
July 19, 2006

A local wag (okay, it was me) used to jest that Henri Brooks was so determined to get busy pursuing a career in public service that she dropped out of charm school early.

And there was a time when such a characterization rang true of a legislator who often appeared humorless and single-minded as she pursued goals that revolved around themes of racial justice -- especially the application of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill to all public issues where racial discrimination appeared likely or even possible.
